Two companies' partnership brings geeky women what they want
FAIRFAX, Va., Oct. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Much has been made of the emergence of the "geek girl culture," but two companies have long known that women who are passionate geeks have always been there. Her Universe, a female-focused clothing company, and ThinkGeek, an online retailer of all things geek, work together to provide that audience products befitting their unique style.
ThinkGeek and Her Universe have just announced a "Year of the Fan Girl" contest that kicks off October 1, inviting fans to submit their STAR TREK themed t-shirt designs for the chance to win $500 and have their design printed by Her Universe and sold by ThinkGeek. To learn more about the contest, please visit http://www.thinkgeek.com/contests/her-universe/.
The two companies have a partnership based on mutual knowledge of their audience. ThinkGeek, currently ranked #180 on the Internet Retailer 500 list, has loyal and dedicated fans and Her Universe has continually provided unique and stylish female friendly designs in a world where the norm was a basic cut t-shirt. Her Universe was founded by actress Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and her partner, The Araca Group.
"The Year of the Fan Girl is a campaign celebrating female fans," said Eckstein. "We have so many budding designers with incredible talent and ideas, and I wanted to give fan girls a platform to design professionally for Her Universe. I am thrilled to be partnering with ThinkGeek and STAR TREK for this exciting contest!"
Since 2011, Her Universe has been creating exclusive shirts for ThinkGeek that include designs from Star Wars, Doctor Who and STAR TREK. Steve Zimmermann, ThinkGeek's Talking Head, states, "The more mainstream that 'geek' becomes, the more opportunity we have to bring fans, both men and women, what they want. Working with Her Universe has been a great opportunity."
