COVENTRY, United Kingdom, Jan. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Authors pay thousands of dollars to get their books ready for sale yet so often the services provided are automated or outsourced to workers whose first language is not English. With huge potential profit margins, the temptations are obvious. Now there's a family-owned company run by authors for authors whose philosophy is to bring the personal touch back to publishing services at rates which are considerably lower than the inflated prices charged by the industry's 'big boys'. Another plus - authors are on hand to answer the questions of author clients.
"We were just putting out our own books," says director Clive West. "An author contact said she'd paid over $3,000 to get her book edited and formatted and a cover designed. And then, once she'd paid, she waited weeks for responses to queries and all the impetus was hers. My wife and I were shocked - we knew then that there was a place in the market for a much better service. "
With millions of titles competing with your book, it's obvious top quality production can boost sales therefore many companies have sprung up promising to provide finishing those services. The trouble is the work is frequently both expensive and shoddy making it doubly hard for authors to recoup their investments, let alone make a profit.
"Authors pay hundreds of dollars to get their book formatted yet often this just involves mindlessly putting their manuscript through a program. The outcome is a technically dysfunctional book which is then derided by readers in their feedback," warns Clive. "Others charge thousands for their official book reviews - ten times or more what we would ask for a detailed objective analysis from a genre specialist."
Any Subject Books is British but many clients of theirs come from the USA. One author, ex-marine Joe Holt, has written a book about his beloved Hawaii ('Aloha Joe in Hawaii'). Joe says: "I was involved in every step of the editing process and they always deferred to my personal choices. They took my 'journal' and created a professional book."
Damaris West, director, reassures would-be clients, "We take immense personal care and pride in editing and formatting and we offer a full 'no quibble' guarantee."
