LONDON and LOS ANGELES, Jan 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Global domination could be in the palm of your hand, thanks to an Australian made app designed especially for budding entrepreneurs and potential tycoons.

Boardroom Tycoon allows players to build a company from the ground up, competing in real-time against real players to hire and fire staff, complete deals, attempt takeovers and acquire income-generating assets from five different sectors, to build up your share price and battle for a place at the top of the leaderboard.

Well on its way to 100,000 downloads from the iTunes App Store and Google Play, this first of its kind game is taking the world by storm.

Best of all, the game was created by one of the world's largest accounting organisations, CPA Australia, which means it combines the challenge of running your own business with important lessons in leadership, strategy and risk management.

CPA Australia chief executive, Alex Malley, said unlike other games in which players compete against a computer, Boardroom Tycoon pitches player against player in the cut throat world of running a corporation and the battle for market supremacy.

"We designed this game with two things in mind: we wanted it to be fun, first and foremost, but we also wanted players to be able to take something away in terms of lessons on how business really works and what it takes to build a successful company.

"As one of the world's largest accounting bodies, building those skills in our members and teaching those lessons is core business. But Boardroom Tycoon enables us to venture outside the business and accounting realm and to a whole new audience.

"The result is a game that is not only proving enormously popular, but it's also seriously addictive."

Mr Malley said because of the games global reach players had the added challenge of competing across time zones.

"When I look at some of the share prices players are achieving, I can't help but wonder if the next Warren Buffet might not already be honing his or her skills through our app."

Mr Malley said the app which is free and has no in-game purchases, is part of a broader strategy from the organisation to shake off the shackles of what people expect might expect of an accounting organisation.

"People tend to have a pretty fixed view of what an accounting organisation might look and how it ought to behave. Our goal is to turn that view on its head -- to embrace innovation, whether through our app, our television show or our online and digital platforms, and show the world being a member of CPA Australia is about being heard as a leader and recognised for strategic and commercial excellence."
