HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- First Lady Susan Corbett today invited artists across Pennsylvania to apply by Feb. 28 for an opportunity to showcase their work in Art of the State®: Pennsylvania 2014, a juried art exhibition.
The exhibition will run from June 21 to Sept. 7 at The State Museum in Harrisburg. Artists who are Pennsylvania residents can compete in five categories:

"The 47th annual Art of the State exhibition will provide a showcase for artists from across the state," said First Lady Susan Corbett, a member of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and chair of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. "It's a fantastic opportunity for new as well as established artists to exhibit their work at The State Museum and receive statewide recognition."
Entry forms are available online at www.statemuseumpa.org. The application deadline is Feb. 28.

More than $7,000 in cash awards will be presented at an opening reception at The State Museum on Saturday, June 21. A first prize of $500, second prize of $300 and third prize of $200 will be awarded in each of the five categories.
The State Museum will select one of the pieces of art for its permanent collection awarding the artist a $2,000 Purchase Prize.
The Art of the State exhibition is co-sponsored by The State Museum and Jump Street. Jump Street is a Harrisburg-based non-profit organization dedicated to developing educational and economic opportunities with the arts for all age groups.
The State Museum of Pennsylvania, adjacent to the State Capitol in Harrisburg, is one of 25 historic sites and museums administered by Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission as part of the Pennsylvania Trails of History®.
