9th Consecutive Month of News Audience Growth

NEW HAVEN, Conn., May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- All around the clock Connecticut viewers turned to WTNH News 8 during the May sweeps period. News 8's 7% year-over-year growth in all household news ratings from 5a-12m will represent the 9th consecutive month of news audience growth for the station.  In addition, News 8's newly launched local sports show, SportzEdge Tonight, brought the 10:45-11p time period on MyTV9 up by 17% and the expansion of Good Morning Connecticut at 4:30a grew the time period by a whopping 120%.

"This 9 month uptrend indicates that Connecticut viewers continue to look to us for their news and for answers to the tough questions facing our state," said Mark Higgins, Vice President and General Manager of WTNH/WCTX. "Morning, noon and night we are committed to being the 'voice of the people' and addressing the big issues that affect our viewers' lives."

In addition to the news ratings growth, News 8 teamed up with retired U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman as a political contributor just in time for the start of the heated 2014 season. Mr. Lieberman offers his unique, expert insight into the issues impacting this year's election cycle.

Throughout May, the News 8 Investigators continued to uncover stories that affect Connecticut residents' safety, rights and concerns.  Chief Investigator David Iversen brought to light allegations of abuse by the CT Department of Veterans Affairs regarding their use of Power of Attorney when dealing with the finances of veterans. With the VA facing tough questions on the national level, the News 8 Investigators will continue to report on this important story locally as they uncover new information.
